Email Housing Sector

Email is our preferred way to communicate. You can explain what has happened and attach relevant supporting documents.

Have a Story to Share?

Residents’ experiences matter. To report on them accurately, we need to understand what happened and check the evidence behind the account.

In your first email, please include:

  • A brief explanation of the issue and the organisation involved.
  • The key dates, what you have already tried and any response you have received.
  • Relevant evidence, such as emails to and from the organisation, complaint responses, letters, photographs or other records.

You do not need to write a polished account. A clear summary and the relevant correspondence are a useful starting point. We can follow up through email exchanges.

Why We Ask for Evidence

We cannot publish allegations solely on someone’s account. Supporting records help us check dates, understand the context, establish what can be substantiated and give everyone involved a fair opportunity to respond.

Please send the relevant parts of the correspondence, including the organisation’s replies. Where possible, include complete email exchanges so we can understand how the issue developed.

Remove unrelated personal information before sending documents. If you are unsure what we need, start with a summary and we will explain what would help us assess the story.

Your Privacy and Identity

We handle material you send us privately while assessing and checking a potential story. Sending us an email or document does not give us blanket permission to publish it.

Before publication, we will agree with you whether your name will be used, whether you will be anonymised and how you will be described. We will also discuss details that could identify you indirectly, including your location, photographs and the circumstances of your case.

We will discuss and agree with you any proposed use of your supporting correspondence, including quotations or screenshots, before publishing it or sharing it with the organisation concerned.

If you want your identity kept private, please make that clear in your first email.

Hearing Both Sides

When we report allegations about a housing provider or another organisation, we seek its response. This gives it an opportunity to explain its position, correct factual errors and respond to the concerns raised.

That means we may need to put relevant allegations and details to the organisation. We will discuss and agree the approach with you beforehand, including what information would be shared and any risk that it could identify you.

Our aim is accurate, fair reporting that considers the evidence and the responses available. Getting in touch does not guarantee that we will publish a story.

General Enquiries and Corrections

For general enquiries, use the same email address. If you are requesting a correction, include the article link, the specific point you believe is wrong and any evidence that helps us check it.
